Baca Gitu Loh - Jakarta – Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto received a courtesy call from German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius at the Ministry of Defense, Jakarta, (5/6/). The two discussed strengthening defense cooperation between Indonesia and Germany.
“So it was a very good meeting and very productive. Bilateral relations and defense cooperation between Indonesia and Germany have been very good for more than a decade. We are determined to continue strengthening cooperation and I promise to pay a return courtesy visit to Germany," Defense Minister Prabowo said at a press conference.
Minister of Defense Boris also expressed his gratitude for the meeting while revealing that several issues were also discussed at the IISS Shangri-La 2023 which was just held last weekend in Singapore, including issues related to the Indo-Pacific from the perspective of Germany and Europe.
“I am also very grateful for the very intensive and friendly meeting. We have discussed several issues which were also discussed yesterday at the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue some time ago," he said.
"I want to underline this initiative and we are open to other collaborations that will be carried out next year," he said.
As a form of defense cooperation between the two countries in the field of education, currently as many as 670 personnel from the Ministry of Defense and the TNI, both civilian and military, have conducted education in Germany in 2022-2023.
There are five personnel who are currently carrying out education which includes Cyber Security Seminar, Officer Training Information Visit, Lofar Sonar Submarine Detection Basic Course, Senior Executive Seminar (SES) and Staff and Command College.
In addition to the education sector, there is a cooperation forum that has been formed with Germany, namely the Indonesia-Germany Defense Dialogue (IGSPST – Indonesia Germany Security and Policy Staff Talks) which are held alternately every year. ***
